Lower Atmosphere Ozone Transport

Figure lower-atmosphere-ozone-transport

This figure appears in the Our Changing Planet: The U.S. Global Change Research Program for Fiscal Year 2010 report.

Tropospheric column ozone (in Dobson units) determined using the difference between the total column ozone measured by OMI and stratospheric ozone measured by the MLS instrument on the Aura satellite. A transport model was used to increase the horizontal resolution of the MLS-derived stratospheric column ozone. Global depictions for July and October 2008 show streams of tropospheric ozone crossing oceans, an important result for understanding both climate and air quality. Credit: M. Schoeberl and J.
