Warming at high elevations could alter the distribution of native plants and animals in mountainous ecosystems and increase the threat of invasive species. The threatened, endemic ‘ahinahina, or Haleakalā silversword (Argyroxiphium sandwicense subsp. macrocephalum), shown here in full bloom on Maui, Hawaiian Islands, is one example.
