Modeling the Diumal Cycle of Precipitation
Figure modeling-diumal-cycle-precipitation
This figure appears in the Our Changing Planet: The U.S. Climate Change Science Program for Fiscal Years 2004 and 2005 report.
Modeling the diurnal cycle of precipitation. The mean June-July-August local solar time of non-drizzle precipitation frequency maximum has been simulated with the standard Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) (upper panel); super-parameterization CAM (middle panel); and from observational data set by Dai (bottom panel). Non-drizzle precipitation was defined as producing mean precipitation rate in excess of 1 mm per day over a 3-hour interval. Source: From Khairoutdinov et al. 2004, J. Atmos. Sci., submitted.
